My name is Kim. Someone recently told me that they didn’t see me as being particularly religious. I am a follower of Jesus, a somewhat Reformed charismatic who wonders what it really looks like to love God with all your MIND, HEART, SOUL and STRENGTH, and to love your neighbor as yourself.

My husband and I had this crazy idea that our home would be a beacon of love, a place of rest where children thrive. Currently, I am at home with 5 (sometimes more) children ranging in ages from 4-17. I like kids and will take them any way they come: by birth, fostering, or adoption.

I enjoy science, science fiction, speculative fiction and the like.

I currently have two books available on Amazon and several others in the works. I write under the pen name SJ Kimberly.

  1. I’m wondering if any of the language in my story (I noticed you read the first two chapters) is offensive or would be better if changed. I used the “S” word once, I think. Also the vegetarian form of the f word, “friggin” or “fricking” several times. I don’t normally ask for this kind of help, in fact I’ve turned off the comments because they were eating up all my writing time, but if you have a moment, your opinion would be appreciated. Thank you.

By the way, I love your “about” page. All those kids, wow! πŸ™‚

    All the best,

    1. Talmage,
Your word choices did not stick out to me as being in any way inappropriate, I will go back and reread just to double check. I should forewarn you though, I am more drawn to authenticity than I am to sappy or super sterilized writing. Sometimes an expletive is an appropriate word choice, sometimes a better word can be found. It appears that Hana is finding herself in a pretty shitty situation. Expletives to be expected. I really enjoy reading this and will continue to read.
Thanks for stumbling on my blog! I very much enjoy reading yours, and reposted the “Proving Darwinism to the FDA” piece, loved the ending.
